I'm sure no one's lying or trying to foster a hoax - it's probably one
of those old laws on the books like it being illegal to eat ice cream on
Sunday in East Armpit, Mass. or that any motorized vehicle must be
preceded by a person carrying a lantern and shouting "Whoa, Nellie!!"
when driving in Podunk, Pa. What would be interesting is to find out
the origin and reason behind this law ever being passed. Did the
bootegger's ever use armoured vehicles back in the "Roaring 20's", was
there ever a threat for the militia or State Guard to take over the
government or what? Supposedly, the private Militia movement is strong
in Michigan and perhaps this is a precautionary law because of that
threat.
A lot of laws probably are passed to be on the books in the event of a
certain event coming to pass or against a certain group but are never
meant to be excersized as a general rule and then forgotten over time.
One last thought - I know the Indiana National Guard trains at Camp
Grayling in Michigan and I've seen numerous convoys on the interstates
in the summertime. I think they always stay off the roads on Sundays
(I thought it was due to vacation traffic jam considerations) but
perhaps this is the law or ordinance we're talking about.
Straighten us out Jim!!!
Happy Y2K
