I have received several requests to forward to the lists the responses I got concerning the trailer topic, so here they are.
Thanks again for the great info!

Dave, I tow a lot , with a gooseneck 20,000 LB GVW livestock trailer and a
flatbed 8,000 LB. utility trailer, in and around the mountains of Northern
CA. I also tow my M-151 as well. My recommendations are as follows:
BRAKES
-electric brakes on at least one but preferably both trailer axles.
-use a hydraulic activated brake controller, it works in all
conditions/situations and works incrementally
and immediately ( the rest work well when you really don't need them and
something less if at all when you
really do, but all that adrenaline reminds me of my youth when I was
immortal )
COOLING
- if you have an automatic transmission, use a good auxiliary transmission
cooler, Long (OEM FORD) makes the best (helical tube, 1.5 x 9 x 12 with 1/2
NPT ports) and is sold by B & M Racing Products
BALANCE
- put the balance point of your tow weight forward of center (on the trailer
tongue, keep your tow rigs rear wheels on the ground )
RIGGING
- I use the nylon ratchet straps ( made in USA by local rigging company )
with no problems anchor at 4 points
TIRES
-I use 8 ply rated special trailer tires ( 7.50x15 ) don't use cheap or used
tires at any speed
TRAILER THEFT
-I use a 3/8 chain and padlock, driven to Indiana and back with M151 and no
problems
hope this helps , best regards Scott

I am getting ready to purchase a trailer for pulling my M151A2 to shows,
etc..
Rather than re-invent the wheel I am hoping that the good people out on the
newsgroup can help me out with some advice.
I take it a two axle trailer is pretty much a given, but are there any does
or don'ts that go with this. The tow vehicle is a brand new Dodge Dakota V8
with the towing package so I do not think gross weight is an issue for the
payload. But a lot of questions come to mind..... How to keep trailer from
being stolen once at the convention or show and you have unhooked it so that
you can get around town? Best straps to use to tie it down on the trailer?
Should I strip everything off of the jeep while transporting, radio and
pedestal mount, stuff like that? Any dumb trailer tricks I should try to
not duplicate? Things I should know to keep from having a towing accident,
stuff like that. Anything on the topic would be greatly appreciated from
the group. I do plan to bring the Mutt to the Kansas City convention this
year, really looking forward to my first convention. I suppose the do's and
don'ts for that could be a separate thread all together.
Hope everyone has had a great start into the new year!
