Plans for the convoy to the Convention are coming together nicely. The more
participants the better!!! I look forward to the trip and companionship of
fellow collectors. We are at a point that we need a rough idea of how many
people/vehicles will be participating. I also need to know which vehicles
will be self propelled, and which if any will be towed/trailered. The sooner
we have this information the better. What follows is a rough schedule/route.
Once feedback has been gotten from ya'll, I will firm this up.
It is my hope that the folks from the Arkansas Chapter of the MVPA will join
us on this trip (especially since our route takes us right through the center
of their operational area!!), and if so the times will be adjusted to allow
for a stop to integrate them into the convoy.
This trip is planned with the presumption that all vehicles participating in
the convoy can maintain an average moving speed of 40 MPH, and have an
unrefueled range of at least 105 miles. If you would like to participate,
but feel your vehicle cannot meet either of these criteria, please contact me
ASAP.
Our route uses 4 lane divided highways as much as possible, but avoids
Interstate highways.
Having gone to KC this past August, I can tell you it will be hot. That is
why we have the early departure times, so we can knock off (baring unforeseen
problems en route) before the heat of the day peaks.
In general, I recommend having a travelling companion with you in your
vehicle, if possible, to provide company and to help drive.

10:45AM Arrive West Plains, Mo for fuel/lunch (185 miles from West Memphis)
11:45AM Depart West Plains, Mo on US 63
12:05PM Take US 60 West at Willow Springs toward Springfield Mo.
2:00PM Arrive Springfield MO (270 miles from West Memphis)
Wednesday Morning August 7
6:00 AM Depart Springfield MO On MO 13
7:30 AM Arrive Collins MO for fuel/break (50 miles from Springfield)
8:00 AM depart Collins on MO 7
9:00 AM arrive Clinton MO for fuel break (85 miles from Springfield)
9:15 AM depart Clinton MO
10:30 AM pass through Harrisonville MO, and pick up US Hwy 71
11:30 AM Arrive at Convention site (436 miles from West Memphis)
RETURN TRIP
Will follow same route, and stop at same places, most significant difference
being we will be departing Kansas City at 8:45 AM Sunday August 13, which
will put us into Springfield about 2:45. We'll leave Springfield at 6:00AM
on Monday, August 14, arriving at West Memphis at 2:00PM.
