Mike, Ron, List,
CORRECTION TO MY MEMORY !
Sorry to have upset the medico's.
I had always remembered the burns as 4th degree. Obviously I am
incorrect. It does not bring back a young man, who died doing his job.
What I will never forget is seeing him running, falling and while many of
us were running to help him, feeling like it took an hour to cross the
bivouac area. It was minutes, but it sure did not feel like it at the
time.
The accident was in the early 60s, and he was transported to the Naval
Burn Unit of St Albans Hospital in Queens NY. We NCOs, and his unit
friends visited him for a year. I think he finally just gave up.
THE IMPORTANT THING IS A SUPPOSEDLY SAFE COOKSTOVE, in supposed perfect
maintained shape, had a damn pressure gauge read zero pounds while still
fully pressurized, and it KILLED A YOUNG MAN. Not war, not the enemy,
just a stove burner.
I believe this is something that all collectors must hear about. There
need never be a similar incident.
The idea of propane conversion is a great idea..
Enough said. Thread Ends.
