Quadrant, Gunners, M1 - 1943

Hi List

At the weekend I picked up a Quadrant, Gunners M1 dated 1943 - it appears to
be in mint condition and is in a wooden case with web carrting strap. It is
of American manufacture.

Can anyone please tell me what it is for.... I presume an Artillery Piece...
but what ?
