Steve,
I am not sure about the navy, but the Marine Corps did have CJ-5's - and I
was issued one in 1979. These were garrison property of the shore
establishment - I was assigned to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center,
Twentynine Palms, CA in the Range Operations Section of the Directorate of
Operations and Training. Our base motor pool had several OD CJ-5's, with
old-style USMC markings on hood sides; we that ran the training areas and
ranges used them, each G-section usually had a couple. These were
non-deployable assets and not to be confused with other jeeps - all of the
FMF tactical vehicles were now the M151A2, all earlier M151's and M38A1's
were long gone.
I believe that other MCBs around the Marine Corps had CJ-5's as well, but I
have not seen any aboard any of the bases I go to now.
If the Marine Corps had them, am sure the navy did too. Hope this helps.

Subject: [MV] '82 CJ-5 Navy Jeep???
*This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(tm) Pro*
A friend just contacted me with a description of a jeep he was offered.
Described as '82 CJ-5 in OD w/Navy marking visible. Tailgate model and
12volt. Supposed to have a GSA "title"???
Sounds sort of fishy to me - were CJ-5's used for military use as late
as '85, would they have had tailgates and 12 volt? I wasn't aware the
GSA issued titles. Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
