A lot of good points regarding large MVs. I'm fortunate that when I got my 5 Ton,
that I was able to drive it on country roads for many miles before taking it into
the city. I personally can't imagine learning to drive a M35 or M54 in the city
without some empty field or country road experience. However, I think that if a
person approaches the situation logically, it is nothing that the average person
can't pickup if they approach it in a reasonable fashion. The TM's are very
valuable for learning how these trucks work. There is a lot you can miss if you
don't read the manuals.

That said, my first driving experience with my M51 dump truck was driving it up
onto the top of a ramp back trailer. The catch was that the brakes on the M51
were not operational!

 Low 1st gear at idle worked well in that situation. Braking was done by
shutting down the engine at the right moment and applying the handbrake. Needless
to say this was done in the middle of a large field - no city or other people
nearby.
