As far as it goes....
I use a lead substitute in my M715. It is sold for
about $4 for a quart that is good for treating fuel
kept in storage tanks. If I remember right, I'm not at
home right now, it treats 320 gallons or so. I usually
dribble in about an ounce, measured by eye.
The 230 OHC is somewhat costly to do the valve job
on...the seats aren't too bad but the overall work
needed in a motor doesn't stop there. If you have an
engine that seals in the head, new valves and seats,
the rings will blow sooner. Valve job only engine
rebuilds are NOT acceptable for the long run. I will
be running the lead until I rebuild, or maybe replace
with an 8, the engine. I think with a low mileage
engine that is mic'ed in the cylinders and your sure
is even in wear between cylinders and is not
significantly worn in any hole, could get away with a
valve job of this type. If you have blowby now, expect
it to grow worse....
As far as if the lead helps...I have heard so much on
both sides, I don't really have a solid opinion
anymore. Lets just say, there are enough people who I
consider knowledgeable in these things to convince me
that there is probably some benefit if not as much as
claimed....therefore, I am not only an advocate, I'm
also a client...
Good luck with your truck!!!!
