Here I am: the book (a very good book!) is:
B. Taylor
"Mercedes-Benz Parade and Staff Cars of the Third Reich. An Illustrated
History"
208 pages, cm. 31x24, hardbound.
The book is full of black/white photos. Please, note that this is NOT a
book on the nazi regime, it is a book on Mercedes-Benz staff cars, it shows
Hitler's Mercedes 770K 4 wheel cars (including the one in the Canadian
Museum) but also Mercedes 6 wheel staff cars used by high rank officers.
As a curiosity: Vanderveen book on WWII military vehicles shows some photo
of Japanese 6 wheel cars... (copy of the German ones?).
The Museum in France where is preserved another Mercedes 770 4 wheel car is
the Malartre Museum. Sorry I do not have any more info. I do not know
where is Malartre, perhaps our French members may help? I only have a
photo in an Italian generic magazine (not related to cars) showing a side
view (the licence plates are not visible).
I am curious to hear how many 6 wheel G4/W31 Mercedes-Benz cars have
survived and where are preserved: if you have any info, please, let me
know! One is in the Las Vegas Casino Museum mentioned in the article posted
by OKMTRPOOL, where are the others?
One of them is showed in the French movie "Is Paris Burning?" just at the
beginning of the film while bringing some top brass officers in Hitler's HQ
in a deep forest. Gert Frobe is the German General commanding Paris and he
receives order from H. to destroy as many historical buildings, bridges,
etc. as possible, before the Allies enter in Paris. There is also Kirk
Douglas. I hope you have seen this film.
I have another book titled "Presidential Cars and Transportation" or
something. It shows a private museum (in Las Vegas, IIRC!) where many
cars, used by the Presidents of the U.S., have been restored and preserved.
Perhaps, it is the same people who tried to buy the Mercedes from the
Canadian Museum? I do not have this book on hand now. Back at home this
evening I shall find it and will let you know tomorrow.
