Hi All Y'all,

There is a product available from Wuerth that is of a milky consistency and
it turns purple/black as it reacts with any oxidation.

Cures in 3 hours in the UK and in 10 bloody minutes out here!

Many moons ago, when I worked for the British MOD (N) at the Central
Salvage Depot at Swanmore in Hampshire (the REAL one), we were charged with
evaluating this stuff for use on Bouys and Salt Water Pumps and other
salvage equipment that, by definition, stays in/very close to sea water all
it's life. The manufacturer, whose name I forget, claimed 10 years minimum
rust prevention. As it happened, the MOD turned it down, even after our
glowing reports, due to cost - this was at the height of Maggie's
cost-cutting Defence Review.

One of my lesser "rabbits" (that's a job done for yourself on Her Majetsy's
time - and probably with Her Majesty's materials too.....) was a beach
fishing rod rest. I painted this rod-rest up with that stuff when I made
it about 16 years ago and it is still rust-free now.

It should be noted, however, that it is useless on clean metal and some
oxidation must be present for it to react and bond. It is totally organic
and if you get it on your hands, black patches will appear that won't come
off, except through normal wear and tear - be warned. It's absolutely the
D.B. and I recommend it highly.
FWIW
Gavin
