Sorry, this is a tad off topic but interesting enough to risk the wrath
of Arthur ;-)

My favorite recent improvisation was during the Gulf War. Iraqi flak had
bunged up a decent number of planes and for whatever reason they couldn't
repair the outer skin even though whatever was damaged underneath was
fixed correctly. Nobody wanted to have these multi million dollar hunks
of metal and computer chips sitting there because of a few holes, so what
did our fine thinking all American ground crews come up with? Pepsi and
Coke cans split open, cut up, and riveted over the flak holes! Why one
of these cola companies never made a commercial out of one of these
planes I will never know :-)
