We all have encounter that eccentric seller and I tend to place less
importance on that as folks get older. We do tend to become a little set in
our ways... asking for cash is very typical of the depression era mentality
many kids of the 20's-30's grew up with.

What bothers me more is the price... $40k which is pretty much top dollar and
have a good inspection. I look for the little things that would point out
how the vehicle has been treated. Proper lubrication, storage, routine
maintenance, body rust, completeness. Then I like to have a nice talk with
the owner and kind of size up his knowledge and honesty.

It's a pretty good investment you are making here, so it's worth not rushing
in to. Some vehicles I've bought sight unseen, on nothing more than the
seller's word. There are still some guys around who's word is absolutely
their bond. Most mil-veh collector's tend to be pretty good people. They
love their vehicles, they know them and the have a shared bond with the
buyers.

As to this title problem. The title can be overcome, but for sure get a bill
of sale! If you are really worried you can take the Vehicle ID (Vin) number
and run it thru NCIC to see if it is stolen. Any local police officer can
help with that one.

Bottom line... take your time to get the best deal on this one, it's priced
fairly high. Inspect the heck out of it, since you seem uncomfortable. But,
remember this, there's always another vehicle.

It never fails that just after you buy your new (whatever) you find another
better and cheaper! Murphy's law.

Jack Lee
Ferret Mk 2/3 Paid $7200
SUMB Paid $3200
Trailer Paid $450

Add for government paperwork, insurance, taxes, duty, etc. About $20k in
both!
