Hank has a good point here. The non-ROPS vehicle is not ideal vehicle to be
strapped into. A certain state National Guard used to issue a booklet to all
its Mutt drivers. This booklet explained that one of the reasons why these
vehicles did not have seatbelts was due to the fact that if the vehicle
turned over, and the driver was strapped in....... the windscreen offered
very little support for an upside-down vehicle. To prove the point, the
booklet featured a photo of one such inverted mutt, with the windscreen
flattened and virtually no space at all between the upturned bodyshell and
the ground. A seatbelt may help in a front or rear-end collision, but could
be a real hindrance in any other scenario.

btw... this was one view......... it seems that other Unit Commanders were
given certain leeway in deciding to fit belts or not, and the M151A2 models
came fitted with plastic knockout plugs in the body for the installation of
belts if desired.

Kind regards....
Ken
