Hi all. Unfortunately had an MV accident yesterday.
Fortunately I was driving the MV !
I was driving my civvy jeep towing an M332 ammo trailer
on an undivided road. Other vehicle was headed in the
opposite direction and got toooooo close and hit the
left rim on the trailer. Boy those exposed lug nuts
sure do a lot of damage. Looks like the other vehicle
was hit by the worlds biggest can opener, from the
front through the fender, tire, rim, A-pillar and
front door.
We both spun, I was really not too happy about a flat
spin with a trailer! It was snowy and slick so neither
of us rolled or anything.
Anyway I need to estimate damage to the trailer for
the police report. All that happened was the bead
area of the rim got pulled out about 1/2" for about 6"
of the edge of the rim. Still holds air, etc. But
I do want to swap this out. What's a fair cost estimate
(who has a 9x20 rim for sale?)
Anything else I should check for damage ? Roads were
slick so there wasn't a hard impact. I think I'm just
going to jack up the trailer and spin the wheels to
be sure the brakes are not binding and that it's still
solid on it's bearings.
PS: seeing that steel rim pull the BEAD LIP COMPLETELY
OFF of the Ford alloy rim sold me for ever on steel rims!!
Stinks to get in a tangle in an MV. I will say the
responding officer was impressed by a STOUT trailer that
got a small pull on the rim versus an Explorer with
about $7k in damages. But yes all my papers are in
order and I was told the police report will be filed
citing the other driver as at fault for losing control
of his vehicle.
Prolly would not have found the expolrer if I had the M54!
TIA,
-Damon
