Says who? What right does a seller have to tell you how you can use the
item they are selling you?

> This was advertised as well.

That's nice, I can advertise that the pulleys I sell cannot be used on an
engine but once I sell it to you it's yours, you can do anything you want
with it.

> As they were sold they are considered unfit for public use in the
highways by the DOD and DOT and NHTSA. They do not meet required safety
standards for vehicles manufactured for public sale as of their date of
manufacture.

NHTSA is under DOT but tell me please.... what authority do they have to
tell me what I can or cannot drive? Fire away, I have my copy of the US
Constitution right here. What specific safety standards do they allegedly
not meet? One of them is that there is no place to put a license plate on
the rear bumper, this is absurd.

> That is the key point. AMG does not want negative issues coming down on
them due to accidents etc putting them somehow in a bad light liability wise.

Uhhhhhh and the civy ones are really any different?

>They claim this is the issue not fear of lost sales.

BS, this has been an argument as far back as WWII. They, the incompetant
suits see a threat yet in reality there is none. Would any of you who have
or want a mil hmwv ever go buy a civy one instead?

> Anyway they are sending a letter to every state asking them to find any
and all HMMWV's and cancel their registration or accept liability issues
themselves.

Are we not mixing apples and oranges here? What does registration (a tax)
have to do with vehicle safety liablity?

> They claim these vehicles should never have been allowed into private
hands and are not suitable for such use.

More crap. They sell a civy version made in the same plant, not to mention
the fact that the surplus system, such as it is, has been in effect for
longer than AMG has been around, they knew that when they bid on the job in
the first place, now they don't like the rules they signed up to, well that
just to bad.

>. Anyone will be able to register these vehicles legally buy upgrading
them to at least the standards for private vehicles that were in effect as
of date of manufacture. AMG lists the upgrades as.....

Well now you've changed the story completely. So AMG will be happy if you
do A, B & C? So you do A, B, &C then get your silly plates, then put it
back the way it was. Sounds like a plan to me.

>All of these items are available through AMG dealers.

Of course.

Sorry to rag so much, don't mean it personally, I just can't stand the
attitude that I see in some of what you said, be they your words or someone
elses. Stopping the continuing implimentation of the socialist police state
is futile, but I'll go down fighting!

That is all,
