Probably the standard admiralty pattern submarine escape apparatus, as
supplied by mmssrr Siebe Gorman, who are better known for the lead-foot
diving equipment theymade and supplied to the admiralty for over a century.

IIRC from their catalogue, it was a close-circuit breathing apparatus, with
a small bottle of oxygene and a soda/potash filter to trap carbon dioxide.

Cheers,

River.
