Learned Listers,
In a stunning example of being tired and fed up with my timing problem, a
new high-pitched chirping noise suddenly emanating from the carb-side of
the engine was immediately and quite wrongly diagnosed as a blowing head
gasket.
30 minutes later I am examining a perfectly good head gasket and a
perforated exhaust gasket. The exhaust outlet gasket had perforated on the
inner side and thus I couldn't feel any pressure blowing, thus the quite
wrong head gasket diagnosis. As it's all apart, I am de-coking and lapping
valve seats but it's a helluva way to spend a Saturday afternoon, eh?
Sadly, the buggers don't go back together quite as quickly as they come
apart, do they?
