Learned Listers,
The captive (welded in) bolts in the exhaust manifold flange appear to be
welded in prior to the flange being welded to the actual manifold. The
reason for this would appear to be the length of the captive bolt, which
would preclude inserting it into place once the manifold is in it's final
manufactured state.
Sooooo, if one of these captive bolts were to strip, then what would be the
best repair?
Clearly, the simplest would be to grind the bugger out and use a new,
non-captive bolt, inserted from below. I was wondering, however, if anyone
out there had found a more imaginative way of restoring the existing bolt,
in situ?
