I agree with Nigel about the quality of this book, but there are several
others out there which can be used for your purposes, and won't cost the
$80.00 that Doughboy to GI costs.
The one I highly recommend is from the Osprey Men At Arms Series. Try the
pertinent volume which covers the US Army from 1941 to 1945. It is
adequately illustrated, and costs $7 or $8 at gun shows.
Beyond that, email me off list and I'll give you the basics of what your
average Company Grade Officer, NCO, or Private would be wearing or carrying
depending on what time of year, or what point of the war you want to
represent, as US Army equipment changed fairly dramatically from 1942 to
1945. If the list is interested in this, I'll post it here. I have been
collecting these items for 20 years, and am co-curator for the largest
private collection of US WWII uniforms in the United States (about 15,000
different US WWII uniforms). NONE OF IT IS FOR SALE, SO DON'T ASK! But
more than glad to answer questions.
