I am trying to pull the hub from a tapered axle on a Dana
44, like on an M38A1. I rented a 3 arm puller that bolts to
the studs with lug nuts, and a big bolt in the center pushes
against the axle end to pull the hub off the axle. Using
WD40 and a 1/2 inch drive impact wrench has had no effect.
Since I have broken one of these tools in the past, I know
when to stop. I have pounded on the end of the hex bolt, on
the disc that the arms lock into, and on the hub itself.
This thing ain't giving way. Any ideas? Heating it with a
propane torch hasn't helped either. BTW, I have already used
a slide hammer to get the axle out of the housing, and this
assembly is on the bench.
Help! I need to return the tool tomorrow morning.
