<The High Flyers
By David H. Hackworth>
Ok.... so this topic isn't exactly appropriate to MilVehs...........(and I
didn't start it)..... but....
having said that..... Listers may wish to know that David H Hackworth is a
retired US Army Colonel, who was highly critical of the Military's fondness
for all things "new and expensive".
Among the things he criticised (in his book "About Face") was the
introduction of the M151-series Mutt. In the book, he devotes several
paragraphs to his experiences of a Mutt that lost control and overtuned, with
horrifying results. He reports the incident in which one soldier is killed
and the other two thrown clear with ...."All this boy's pain was due to a
new-fangled, Army-issued piece of junk, which had everything and could do
anything except get you from point A to point B in safety".
Needless to say, Hackworth didn't endear himself to his superiors !!!!
Hope this puts a "Mil" spin on the topic.
Kind regards....
