>Can you really compare the two situations ?
I think that there is a VERY valid comparison!!!!

The Russians have been producing essentially the same motorcycle since 1941
in the same factory- almost 60 years of continuous production.....
>And I notice Andreas is not trying to pass off his 1948 kettenkrad as a

Of course, I am not trying to pass off my bike as war-time model either. I
just wanted to take the opportunity to offer this vehicle to our esteemed MV
listers. A tenuous connection at best....but I had been looking for an
excuse to mention it was for sale!
>Kettenkrad is not a military definition, its the German for "tracked

I agree with the comments Jack Lee made on the subject. I'd much rather have
a good looking repro to use or reenact with rather than a display only
vehicle that is too valuable to risk losing. Would you expect a collector
that pays $40-60,000 USD for a motorcycle to go reenacting with it? I
suppose some might, but I'll leave the rare and valuable originals to the
serious (money is no object) collectors or museums.
Although I didn't intend to start a controversy, I'm glad the list members
are having a good discussion on the subject (and in the spirit for which it
was intended).
