Presently, I'm working on a mule which was from 101st ABN. It has several
faint, painted over, otherwise unreadable markings on it.
First-- Fuel tank has a black star on left end and under the cap, several
stenciled marks, painted on a couple of times. I believed it may have said
something like " Fill to 4.5 in. from top." All I can make out is ," 4.5
in." Can anyone tell me exactly what it says.
Second-- next to steering selection cover (A4), all I can read are the
letters "ops"
Third-- This is an upgraded mule, on the front fender curve, on each side
are faint markings. I believe this is unit markings. I remember seeing these
in the seventies, but at the time I didn't pay much attention.
Before I start sanding and paint I want to record these markings in
my notes. Can any one tell me what these markings say or where I should look
for other marks. I've found "U.S.Army " and registration numbers on sides. I
knew where to look for them.
U.S.M.C. mules had a black outline diamond with number inside on
fuel tank and on seat backs. They also had "Max. speed 20 mph" on the deck
behind gear shifts. Thanks to you all, isn't this FUN!?!!!
