List,
It's the time of year when I mention the Minnesota Military Expo. As in past
years, it is being held at Fort Snelling, located in the Minneapolis/Saint
Paul area. This is, essentially, and open house that is supported by all
Branches of the Services. This is not a swap meet, and there are no sales
booths. Just a way for the Services to thank the community for its support.
Some highlights:
The "Moving Wall", a portable version of the Vietnam Memorial.
Navy combat aircraft, including a P-3 Orion and an F-14 Tomcat.
The Minnesota Air National Guard Museum, with warbirds from WWII to the
SR-71 Blackbird.
Fort Snelling Military Museum vehicle displays, WWII to the present,
including operational vehicles being put through their paces on a mini field
course.
WWII Reenactors in a simulated battle.
Air Force Reserve base will have: C-130 Hercules, F-15 Eagle, KC-10
Extender, and T-1 Jayhawk aircraft on display and open for tours.
Army Reserve units set up in simulated field conditions demonstrating
Medical, Engineering, Transportation, and Combat Service Support operations.
Exhibits by the Marine Corps.
Tours of the Historic Fort Snelling area (circa 1840's), complete with
living history reenactors.
Displays by the Minnesota Army National Guard's Camp Ripley Museum.
I realize that this doesn't compete with Beltring or Aberdeen, but it's an
interesting way to spend a day. Activities will take place on the 29th and
30th of July. Feel free to contact me for more information.
