Jeff it sounds like a short either in the hi-beam switch or wiring from
there to the headlights. The circuit breaker is opening when you turn on
the hi-beam that's why everything goes out. The click noise is the circuit
breaker resetting after you remove the short by turning off the hi-beams.
You can isolate the fault by disconnecting the wire feeding the hi-beams
from the switch. If everything still shuts off the problem is in the
switch. Do the same with each light and wire run.
Hope this is helpful, I'm not familiar with the mutt wiring so can't be more
specific, but look for a frayed wire touching metal (switch housing or where
the wires enter the headlights).
Good luck, Lou
