M38 or CJ5

List,
I have a lead on a jeep for sale. It is advertised as a CJ5, but I noticed there was the cutout in the right side of the hood for the fording snorkle. There are no dataplates. I'm not a jeep guru. Is there any way to positively identify that it is an M38 instead of a CJ5 without dataplates?
