Of course you don't want to get it to hot. If your in doubt, they have
these temperature crayons. Simply swipe it over the heated surface (with
the torch out of the way) and if it leaves a wet streak then your over the
temp marked on the crayon. Most any welding supplier would have them. You
can buy them in 25 degree increments from at least 250 to over 1000
(degree's F that is) and they are not that expensive. Word of warning
however (and another reason to actually know where you stand as far as
temperature is concerend) you only have one shot to do a shrink fit, if you
missed the min temp or got it cocked and don't react instantly..... it's all
over.
