Some guys will use gravel and water and shake and tumble the can a lot,
dumping, rinsing, and repeating till clean. Some guys use bb's and ball
bearings. Fill the can 1/4 full or less to get the slosh factor working.
This is a cheap way and works, takes a little time, but sounds like you have
the time to waste. I've sandblasted out the cans after sloshing crud out.
I've also used a curved hard line on the end of a sandblaster to get as much
of the top and under the rim as possible. That worked ok, too.
