I have an early M-38A1(1952) that I am now beginning to
start the restoration on and I have noticed a few things
that seem to be differnt from the later production
trucks.
1 The pintle hook is the swivel type instead of the
usual 1/4 ton truck sytle with the 4 bolts. I have
checked the paint layers and this appears to be the
factory.
2 The data plates are original, but the stock number for
the truck and the tire pressures have been changed with
a hand stamp at some time. Did the stock number actually
change or did the plates leave the factory with the
wrong numbers?
3 The original paint seems to be of the WWII shade. Was
this normal? it was later covered in the 24087 paint.
Anyone got any ideas on these quirks? I was planning
restore it as a run of the mll M-38A1 but if it is a
very early one or an oddball I may put a little more
research into it.
