Not to beat a dead horse (keeping those PEDA people happy), but my uncle
placed a fuel switch in-line between the fuel tank and pump. Never had a
problem since.

This doesn't work. In the big fuel filter in front of the injection pump
is enough fuel to blow up the engine. So you have to cut the fuel line
between the filter and the injection pump. And this line is most times
a steel tube.
