We have a long history of military railways in the uk too much to expand
upon here but until the mid 80,s the Army had a Military railway training
centre and specialist units (usually reservists ) who ran the system and
maintained it. Many of our large depots in UK and germany had rail links and
operated locos and stock on military lines. Not many left now following the
strat defence review. There were also some interesting narrow gauge systems
used by the brit mil even up to the late 1970's i recall a system at our
petroleum depot in Arsbeck.
