I hate to rain on your parade as it were, but it sounds to me like a PUD
type vehicle. Electric company, water utility, etc. I found a 1930's
vintage ford truck once with a large cutout on the roof with a mirror to
look behind. Later determined it was an ex-pud boom truck. It too was
painted a nice gloss olive drab.
still sounds like a neat truck, saw a 1930's ford ice truck restored at the
last car show.
