8) M31-C machine gun mount NOS(may already have a good lead on a repro,
but
would like original)
9) M1919-A4 non-gun - made from parts kit, all should work, except cannot
fire.
******* Been holding off writing this till my........."gun" arrived.
I came across a tripod for the .30 cal. MG awhile back. Thought, hey,
if I put a tripod mounted .30 cal replica together, I could switch it
from vehicle to vehicle for diplays. Or use it set up off the vehicle
too at displays. I decided to do it this way since I don't know which
vehicle I'll take where. Since most vehicles carried men & or arms, & I
can't "arm" them all, this would be cheaoper in thelong run. ANYWAYS....
I checked around some. Best references were for Lee Hutchins in Cal.
I contacted him & stated I was interested in a 1919A4 replica. He sadi
$345 wiht 50% up fornt. No problem. He DID say it would be a little as
he only did this as a hobby. YES it took over 6 months. He had problems
with a subcontractor doing the bluing. BUT......
It arrived the other day. Nice wooden crate. Thing weighs about 45
lbs. I woudl say that you would have to be closer than 5 feet to start
to thinkits not real. Nice details & working (pulls back & returns)
"bolt" handle. Top strap comes up so you can fit ammo through the gun.
Has a carry handl, although one person told me these were for the A6
version only. In fact I am very pleased despite the length of time I
waited for it. And value is satisfactory. NOW......
Be aware ! THIS IS A REPLICA THROUGH & THROUGH !!!!! NOT A REAL GUN,
OR MADE FROM A PARTS KIT !!!!!
Lee stated & I concur, that when you buy a parts kit & start to
"assemble" a replica, "non-working or not", that you may be entering the
grey area of the BATF's definition of a "Firearms Manufacturer. He does
not, nor do I wnat to be scrutinized for any length of time by those
guys. This replica is made 99% with metal stock. He did use some type
of gun sights on it, but all else is made up stuff. Still it looks
good.
And the bonus's are
(1) I don't have to worry about some fool playing with it & breaking a
real weapon.
(2) I don't ahve to worry about some fool bringing a live round &
thinking, "hey, lets see if this works".
(3) I don't have to worry about messing with paperwork whenever I want
to move it.
(4) I don't have to pay more than I did to have a non working gun.
Buy a "parts" kit for, what, $325. Find a side plate that'll hold it all
together (& look good) for less than $100. Don't forget to get the
rivets, etc. You maybe up to about $150 more soon. & don't forget, you
maybe closer than you think to something that may get scrutinized very
heavy one day.
I'm not really paranoid. I just figure I really don't need somthing
better than this so why possibly suffer for it later.
If anybody is interested I can give more details off- list. In short,
I reccomend this for your vehicle display.
I believe he also makes some excellent mounts. Reproductions only, but
several styles. If this 1919A4 MG is any indication. I think its a real
bargain. Steve
