Please take note of my reply to him, at the end of this message.........

<< Ken,
I would like to be the first to let you know of an upcoming book that I am
working on with the 82nd Airborne Division Museum. It is a book about
covering the 151's introduction into the 82nd and the last 151's that were
turned in from active service with the 82nd. To date there is only one 151A2
that is still on the books here.(Not active service though) It is the
Division commanders jeep that was used in Grenada. It is an excellent example
of a command 151 and is located in the 82nd AB Museum. Back to the book there
are going to be over 100! never before published photo's of the 151 from the
first M151's being driven down Gruber Road, MUTT's in Dominican Republic,
MUTT's being used with 82nd in the 66' DC riot control action, the 82nd
MUTT's in Vietnam, the 70's, Grenada, and the final 151's end of service in
85,86. There will be a whole lot more than just photo's as well. I have
researched the Divisional archives and have found the G4 reports showing the
numbers of 151's delivered and turned in each year to the last ones. In 1961
for instance the Division received 864 1 1/4 Ton, Jeep 151 as it is listed in
the summary report for that year. More research is being but for the most
part we are rolling along full speed. No this is where I need your help and
every 151 owners help. The layout of the book is like so.... the first
chapter will be the 151 Command vehicles, each chapter will be laid out so
that it follows the command vehicles through the years. the second chapter
will be on the standard 151 with/withou radio gear. Ch. 3 will show Commo
vehicles, Ch.4 will show medical 151's. Ch. 5 will show mechanic contact
151's. Ch. 6 will show "Gun" jeeps. Ch. 7 will show antiarmor. Ch.8 will
show any other specialty 151's that do not fall into this category. Ch. 9
will be the information Chapter with the graph's showing the numbersissued,
turn ins, and loses due to combat. Ch.10 is where we all come in. This is
the chapter where all the restored MUTT's will be shown that are Army. Well
ok we got to show some variants as well. Heck the whole book cannot just
revolve around the 82nd. And as for the name??
 "The All American MUTT"
A history of the M151 in the 82nd Airborne Division

So what do you think? Let me know. If you could perchance post information
that we need photo's of the restored jeeps if people would like to submit
them we need the following information and format....

 Name (Place of residency optional)
 Version
 Year
 Manufacturer
Brief history of the restoration and any other information that they would
want included.
And the actual photo's in a 8X10 print. Now as of yet I am not sure if the
prints will be able to be returned to us by the publishers. If they are they
will be returned to the owners. The cutoff date is the end of this year. We
go to press around February.

I know this is a lot to ask of you but you are the MUTTGURU and I know no
one who is better linked to 151's buffs than you are. Any help advice tips,
etc that you can submit are greatly appreciated and any technical assistance
provided by you will be shown in the book. Thank you for your time and help.

My reply..........

Dear SSG Roderigas......... Thanks for your E-mail. I will be very happy to
help in any way I can. However, you may wish to know that many Mutt owners
will be apprehensive about supplying details of their vehicles to a
representative of the US Military. I expect you can understand the reasons
for their caution.
Nevertheless, I will circulate your request to my friends and contacts, and
maybe their enthusiasm for your book will outweigh any concerns they may have.
Please let me know how the response goes.........

Kind regards.......
Ken Whowell
