This is just a side note but I went
through a demil deal with ATF.
I, J.Random civilian, was handed
a nice M14 (national match) rifle.
Not an M1-A, this was an honest
to goodness USGI machine gun that
was brazed into a semi-auto.
From what I heard it was common
practice for this conversion in
the services. Anyway for some
reason I was on the line with ATF
about something and asked about it.
Well they basically threatend to
come to my house and take it
because if it ever was a machine
gun, it still is a machine gun
and there was no amount of
modification that could be done to
make it not a machine gun.
The rifle and I parted company
3 years later, returned to whence
it came. Janet Reno never showed
up though.
