Jim,
Finally... you weigh in with these thoughts...
>If it is, indeed, lying in Russia its almost impossible to get an export
>licence for anything like this and its a case of 'buyer beware' unless
>you would like to spend a long holiday in Siberia chopping down trees at
>the Russian Governments expense.
Since this whole Tiger thing started I have been waiting for you to give
your opinion, as you are the most qualified member on this list to give
one (in my opinion any way!) Needless to say, I am not surprised at what
you wrote :-) This reminds me of that JSII that was sitting in a field
somewhere in one of the Baltic states, just waiting for someone to buy
it. I heard you got a bridge in New York thrown in for chump change ;-)
However the chances of a Tiger II (not Tiger I like the ad in Wheels and
Tracks) being located on Russian Federation soil is not possible unless
it was taken there after the war. Since this sounds like a battlefield
relic I'd guess it isn't in Russia propper since no Tiger IIs saw action
on what is now Russia and after the war the Soviets seemed to pretty much
leave stuff where it lay. Poland (highly likely), Hungary (highly
likely), and Czechoslovakia (not likely) are the only places on the
Eastern Front that saw these beasts so far as I know. A few might have
seen a piece of the Ukraine, but it isn't likely off the top of my head.
And as Doc pointed out... in this day of digital pictures and free
webspace, there is *NO* excuse for not posting pictures for all to see.
It is more effort to send out pics to only those that are "serious" and
they probably get more "non serious" inquiries. So I smell a rat. There
might very well be something for sale, but it is either impossible to get
out of the country or is in such horrible shape as to hardly count as a
vehicle (I saw pics of a Tiger 1 that was just the lower hull for
example).
My 2 cents and then some!
Steve
