Listers,
I've been running 12V FM and ham transcievers off of the lower 12V battery for
years and have never had a failure. When I park my MUTT I turn off the master
cutoff switch that's on the negative side of the batteries, then I connect two
Harbor Freight wall wart trickle chargers (about $6.95 on sale)
It works like a champ and the batteries stay "topped off".
For a bench supply I use two 12V mower batteries in series, again with the trickle
chargers attached, but I've installed a 20 amp circuit breaker just in case a
short should occur. (The mower batteries are about $20 ea. at wall mart) These
batteries are in a wooden box with a carring handle. If I need to jump something
I use this setup, without using the circuit breaker, of course. Be careful when
fooling with large current source batteries as it's very easy to start a fire with
a over heated wire especially with 24 volts behind it.
