There are reference books galore, but one of the most useful is probably the
various versions of the U.S. Army's 'Camouflage Painting Guide for Vehicles'.
This gives you all the paint-by-numbers instructions for painting them, of
course,
but you also get handy silhouette drawings of everything from tanks to
backhoes
to trailers from every conceivable angle, and they're all labelled as to
what they are.
I can remember most of 'em by now without looking, but the book sure helps
when I come
across things on the DRMO listings I can't readily identify, like M-123
Trailer,
2 1/2 Ton, Special Purpose - which I can then look up in my paint book, and
verify that it is, in fact, quite useful for hauling aircraft drop-tanks,
but precious little else!
