In a recent issue of Aviation Week and Space Technology there was a
paragraph discussing the Defense authorization bill in congress that
would extend DOD authorization to demil equipment (significant military
equipment) after it leaves service and is in private hands. This demil
would be at the owners expense.
Museum and owners of warbirds are concerned they would be required to
destroy valuable aircraft on political whimsy. This demil action
wordage was apparently caused by people who manage to scrounge enough
parts to build a working Apache helicopter. MiG owners are not worried
because the rule applies only to equipment formerly owned by the
Defense Department.
House/Senate conferees will meet on the defense authorization when
Congress returns in Sept.
Representative Gary G. Miller (R-Calif) is leading the fight against the
demil language. I suggest supporting him in his efforts.
We gotta save our "Greens".
