In the interim, do what I did, find some that are bigger and draw file
them down. Do a scratch test on something suitable to see if they are
the same hardness - just in case.
If you don't know how to "dress" a commutator or slip ring, take it to
someone who does, if that is, yours is pitted or rough. I get the
impression you have the skill and knowledge to do it yourself.
My Ferret starter is still running around 12 years later with a set of
underground mine cage winder brushes in it. I never did get around to
buying the real thing because:
A) Haven't seen any for sale.
B) Ferret starters are a bugger to get out and now that it is back in
there it can jolly well stay there.
C) It seems to crank better with these ones than with originals.
