Seriously, the HUMV, M1010/1008/1009 all give '55' as the top speed
likely more through the Army's self-imposed speed limit as opposed to
anything more mechanical. The final drive ratio works out different on
all the vehicles mentioned despite having nominally the same
engines/transmissions/transfer-cases, which is absurd if the mean 'safe'
rpm limit of the engine coupled with the final drive ratio was responsible
for the 'maximum speed' calculation as with other vehicles.

Others mileage-may-vary, but our Gov't also limits the military to
90 km/h (usually via a prominent sticker to that effect on dashboards
and tailgates), though I know from experience that the CUCV's will
happily do 65 mph (and better with the 1009's) without complaint.
