THIS IS FOR INDIVIDUAL THAT ASKED ABOUT HYX-57/TSEC.
1. HYX-57 is an older, but still in-service
"Encryptor-decryptor" piece of COMSEC. Our resident "really knows his
stuff" guy (former signal maint NCO) indicates that a HYX-57 performs the
same encryption-decryption function on a wire line. Such would be used
to ensure that a "lima-lima" is "secure". It would be used like an
AN/GRA-39 for "remoting" operations. However, the latter device is not a
"secure" device. Beyond, this, this outfit doesn't deal w/them thar
things; so, I hope this info helps.
2. Will fax p. 4-44 out of our SINCGARS Ground Combat Net Radio (CNR),
Integrated COMSEC (ICOM) Operator's Manual TM 11-5820-890-10-8m, 1 Dec 98
(latest) (para 4.11e), regarding "Use of Wire Line Adapter, HYX-57; and
include the following page, which addresses that GRA-39, noted above.
3. Send fax no.

Can't tell identify the HYX-57 specifically, but items having the TSEC
designation are cryptologic devices.
