Absolutely.
For these vacuum operated accelerator pumps and others known for hot start
hassles because of percolation, Ford V8s in CMPs spring to mind, there is a
technique that may help.
You need to ensure the battery and starter wiring is in good order together
with a well maintained ignition system, give it about half throttle and
crank as this quickly clears the excess richness, when it fires allow the
revs to come up while it sorts itself out and slowly back the throttle
keeping it at a quite fast idle for a few seconds until totally sorted, then
drive as normal. Likely a fair amount of cranking will be needed though.
The worst thing is to lift off the gas as soon as it fires having it die
again and further over-richening the mixture. Period drivers of the V8 CMPs
report that they were difficult when first issued and if possible were left
running all day after the first start unless the halt was likely to be
several hours.
