In magazine economics, there is no connection whatsoever between "alien"
total circulation and "money turnover." The additional cost of overseas
subscriptions is due entirely to postage. When we set prices for those subs,
we are taking a risk that the next rate increase by USPS is not going to
cause those subs to COST us money, as we can't go back and increase the price
of subs already on file. Nor can we change the prices every time the USPS
takes it into its head to increase its rates. Furthermore, additional
overseas subs do allow us to increase advertising rates because most
advertisers will not pay extra for that audience. End of Lesson.
