I assume that you're referring to an M109 shop van, not an expansible
van. I've heard that some shop vans were wired for 3 phase power. My
M109A3 van, however, is wired for 120 VAC 60 Hz 60 A single phase
power. If you configure your van to run from 3 phase power, then
you'll be stuck using your generator for power. If you configure it
for 120V single phase power, then you'll be able to run it from shore
power at RV parks, your residence, etc., though you may need to limit
your loads to 15 amps at those times. Although my 10 kW generator can
generate 3 phase power, I'll probably configure it for single phase
for use with my van.

Unless you plan to use 3 phase power in your van, I'd recommend that
you stick with a generator than can be configured to generate single
phase power. You could supply 120 V single phase power from a 4-wire
208V 3 phase generator, but you would be loading the generator
unevenly, and only using 1/3 of its capacity. Some generators, like my
MEP-003A, can be configured to generate either single phase or 3 phase
power. Others, like the MEP-004 15 kW set, just generate 3 phase
power.

The 120V 60A power service of my shop van only requires about 7200
watts. My 10 kW generator is a bit of overkill, unless I re-wire the
van for different service, such as 120/240V 50 A.
