* For Sale: Russian Spaceship, Slightly Used
Frustrated dot-com millionaires who've run out of holiday gift
ideas can make a really stellar purchase: a $2.2 million Russian
spaceship.
The Soyuz TM-26 space capsule, a three-man craft that flew into
orbit on a 1997 mission to the Mir space station, is for sale at
http://www.thespacestore.com. The capsule weighs 2.8 tons, and is
more than 2 meters tall and 2 meters in diameter.
The sale is the result of a partnership between the Space Store's
parent company, Space Media Inc., and RSC Energia, the Russian
manufacturer of the craft. The companies are working to "promote
Energia's achievements in and contribution to peaceful space
exploration," according to the site.
But will it sell? "There's no doubt," says Dayna Justiz, operator
of the site. "I expect it to go by Christmas or Hanukkah. This
gift is really out of this world." - David M. Ewalt
