Hi I can only suggest a product called never dull for doing the metal
parts. It is cotton impregnated with chemical. and you use a small portion
of it from the can and with lots of elbow grease you polish the affected
part.
As for the Fabric, I found in a copy of Henley's twentieth century formulas
processes and trade secrets. (1937 edition) Up to date eh?
On page 193 it has a formula for cleaning rust spot remover for fabric. It is
as follows:
Dissolve Potassium bioxalate 200 parts in distilled water, 8,800 parts; add
glycerine, 1000 parts, and filter. To use: moisten the rust or ink spots
with the solution let lie for 3 hr. rubbing the moistened spot frequently,
and then wash well with water.
You might have to test this on some old fabric if you have any. I have not
used this formula and cannot vouch for it's usefulness. Just a thought. If
the fabric is almost trashed what have you to loose? Let me know if it works
