Thanks to all with advice on shear pins,
the info on aluminum just shocked me but I see why they use it.
With out the stress tests on shear parts and the like I sure am not going
back with a steel bolt, soft or other wise.
Although that's what I used as a FER.
I think a soft brass pin will work and be fairly easy to flare on the ends
like a rivet.
On the subject of the oversized aluminum pin, mine had no clips or cotter
pins, it was driven in.
I did reuse it in one side 4 times just by driving it part way out and
filling the other side, 1st with a handful of small nails (got 18"), then
with drywall screws (got another foot), then a soft bolt twice(3 feet
forward & 3 sideways).
We got home, but did have a bit of minor damage to the cable slide on the
side of the winch (pulled the front 3 feet sideways to clear the first
tree).
Has anyone seen a set of rollers (NOS) that fit the winch on an M35A2?
