Tom is right. The Dana 300 transfer case is a great unit (used to have one in a
CJ-8 Scrambler) but it is lubricated from the input shaft and should not be flat
towed. It will burn up in short order. Disconnecting the rear drive shaft and
unlocking the front hubs should allow a safe flat tow.
There are companies that make kits for the Dana 300 that add output shaft
lubrication to the unit. They can be found in civvy 4X4 magazines.
