I've been on the road and out of touch for some time, but I want to add my 2
cents on diesels with hard starting.
Nozzles are supposed to hold pressure when the engine is not running. If
their seats leak, there is no fuel available to fire the engine, and the
smoke and rough running experienced when the engine does start is the raw
fuel that has leaked into the cylinder. If you experience hard starts, check
-- or have a mechanic check -- the nozzles.
Hope this helps.
